What are your priorities in life? Do they align with your core beliefs? Are you there yet or still working on getting your priorities straight? Do the things that you do each day reflect your priorities though stated or not?
I went to bed around 8pm last night. I was very exhausted. We had a long day at church–it was great and all but as a momma with a toddler and just having covid early this year I realized that a power nap always do me good. But I missed that today and yesterday, and I have been going to bed later than my set bedtime because we’ve been trying to catch up with chores after a challenging week of taking care of our sick-o girl.
Then I woke up just right around midnight to do my bedtime routine which ended up doing a bit of chores as well such as putting away stuff we took to church, doing dishes, doing my colored laundry, and disinfecting a few objects in the house. Did I mention cooking rice and managing our family calendar? Yes, I did them too. I believe in eating a hearty breakfast and so I have rice ready and after writing this blog post I will be cooking my lentils using my instant pot. There’s nothing like waking up in the morning with breakfast waiting for you. 🙂
And then there’s the time change. I had to reset our clocks again and now as I think about it I am losing an hour tonight. Wooppssssiee.
So, based on my quick narration of my day and night, what do you think are my priorities?
Here are a few that I would like to share with you in no particular order:
–Keeping a clean and orderly house. This is a big priority for me. I believe that to be able to function well, keep my sanity, and be a better mom and a housewife things in the house must be in order. I believe in order, efficiency, simplicity, and expeditious yet careful and thorough in doing things.
-Serving meals on regular intervals. My daughter and I have excellent working internal body clocks that our bodies ask for food at regular times. We usually have our meals around 7:30am, 12:30pm, and 5:30pm. This helps us set a regular time for other things as well such as work and play.
-Being able to have a quiet time. This is something that I value as as a mom. I need to have that quiet time in the morning and evening with my God for I cannot do anything on my own. I need Him. He is the Source of my daily strength, wisdom, love, patience, and many other good stuff that only comes from Him. (Because of this priority, I like to have my breakfast ready the night before as much as possible so nothing else in the morning vie for my attention especially when both my daughter and I like to eat early.) I also like to take quiet time during the day especially when during Bethany’s nap time for learning. I have picked up reading again this year and it is my goal to finish at least two books a month. I know it’s not much but when you’re a stay-at-home mom with a toddler then you will understand. I’ve also started learning the piano again though on my own and has picked up the guitar and ukulele. Doing this helps my daughter foster a love for music for God’s glory.
-Training Bethany for eternity. As a Christian mother, it is my duty to God and to my family to teach and train Bethany the right way. Yes, sometimes, I admit this priority can take the backseat when life gets crazy busy but by God’s grace I am learning how to be a better mom. I firmly believe that it is my responsibility to teach her about God, to be a good citizen not only for this life but for the life to come. Therefore, to be able to achieve that I daily prayerfully ask the Lord for wisdom, strength, love, and lots of patience to be able to do this big role of motherhood. It is a challenge. It’s been a journey but I am learning day by day. One important thing that I learned recently is to be intentional with what we do with Bethany while keeping the end goal of eternity in mind. So, how does this look like? Here is an example. In the morning when we wake up, we model personal worship to her. I say a little prayer when she wakes up even if I am in the middle of my personal worship just to teach her and show her that our first thought and first communication during the day is with God. Then we ask her to get Bible and encourage her to do her little personal worship so she would pray to Jesus and “read” her Bible by looking at the pictures, making up dialogues or incorporating lines that she remember from that story then she’d pray again for closing prayer. Most of the time though she prefers to have us help her do her personal worship. Modeling to her that our day starts with God is very vital because we are trying to teach her to “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
What are some important things I am working on?
-Going out and getting my exercise, fresh air, and sunlight (when weather permits) daily. I would like to go out and take a few minutes even if it’s cold to just go for a walk and play with my daughter outdoors. Most of the time I chicken out when I see the temp on my weather app. I don’t like being cold. I don’t like being too warm either. I like the happy medium of 55-75F.
-Being able to consistently do my bedtime routine and be in bed at regular time. There are so many things that happen in our lives from board meetings to prayer meetings to outreach programs. That is why being able to consistently do my bedtime routine is a huge challenge for me. I could use some prayers for wisdom to be able to navigate this stage of life we are in.
As a mom, it is definitely important that I set my priorities such as training my child for eternity, keeping a neat and orderly home, serving meals on time, and having that special quiet time with God and giving myself time to grow along with many other things. But these are the basic for now that I try to really master. 🙂 There are many things in my life that I am working on and among those are being able to exercise, get fresh air, get sunlight, do my bedtime routine consistently, and sleep at regular time. These things have to move up my ladder of priorities because I know that these will help me be a stronger, healthier, and wiser mom.
What about you guys? What are your priorities in life?
