“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.” – Plato

When do parents introduce music to their children? I’d say as early as they’re in the womb. A ton of research studies has been done about the benefits of listening to music even when babies are in their mother’s womb. Listening to classical music and inspirational hymns are definitely beneficial not only to babies but also to moms who are going through different phases of pregnancy.

I started listening to music more when I learned that I was pregnant. Everyday I’d be listening to instrumental hymns and classical music everywhere—at home, at work, at play. 😊 My husband and I desire for our child to love music and hopefully would pick up an instrument or would like to sing or both for God’s glory and honor.

My heart is full of gratitude and joy for giving us, humans, the gift of music. The peace and tranquility we get from listening to instrumental gospel hymns and selected classical music is immeasurable.

I may not be the best singer in the world but I used to sing to our baby girl during nap and sleep times. I’d go through a round of hymns and children’s songs each time. It was fun.

As she developed the ability to make sounds, she’d go “ohhh, ohhh, ohhhh” and now she’s somehow able to sing using her own baby language. She just loves to sing! She can even go for a day singing in her seat while traveling! She’s definitely picked up singing because we make sure that there’s music played in our home everyday.

She’s also mesmerized by the sound of different instruments and so we encourage her to play various ones and just explore them. She especially likes the string instruments. She loves it when Dada picks up his guitar or Mama’s ukulele and use them during family worship.

Tonight, we skipped our daily family walk after dinner because we had to quickly clean Bethany after the meal. Of course as her routine dictates, after the bath is “Bible” time so she and Dada did that. Then we had a bit of family time in the living room and she decided to get her ukulele and get mine too so she and Dada can play together. What a good girl!

Dada, let’s make music together! 10.15.2020

We praise the Lord for giving us such a precious daughter that loves so many wonderful gifts from the Lord including music. We pray that she’ll continue to enjoy music and would one day decide to serve our Maker, Redeemer, and Friend with it.
